From mid-September through the end of October, Penn State units at campuses across the commonwealth will be holding events in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month. The unifying theme for this year’s observances is “Nuestra Música (Our Music): Identity, Culture and Resistance."
Mont Alto's spring 2021 Race, Equity, and Action series programming will conclude with a discussion about race and racism with New York Times bestselling author Ijeoma Oluo.
Sundance Award-winning filmmakers Cristina Ibarra and Alex Rivera will participate in a discussion after an online screening of their film "The Infiltrators" at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, October 9, open to all campuses and their communities. The event is co-presented by the Latina/o Studies Program and Penn State’s Sustainability Institute as part of the "Intersections: How We Respond" film series and Penn State’s Hispanic Heritage Month. One of Penn State Mont Alto's long-time faculty celebrated her retirement with a collaborative art exhibit reception on Feb. 28. Art professor Freya Qually is well-known in art circles in the area.
The Penn State Mont Alto Chorale will perform two holiday concerts, titled "Comfort and Joy," featuring songs of the season under the direction of Fred Davison, Penn State Mont Alto instructor in music, on Dec. 8 and 10. The concerts are open to the public and free of charge.
Comedian Shawn Felipe will perform at Penn State Mont Alto at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the Wiestling Student Center. The show is open to the public and free of charge. Members of the community can park in the lot across from the Multipurpose Athletics Center on campus. Some handicap parking is available behind Wiestling.
